Gérald PESTMAL

Born in 1945
Lives and works in Île-de-France, France

Gérard Pestmal is a visual artist, restorer and sculptor with a degree from the Beaux-Arts in Perpignan. He expresses his imagination fuelled by his observations of nature. The artist works with materials like reclaimed wood, paper and cardboard. His bas-reliefs of cut, crushed and twisted cardboard allow him to express movements similar to the energy of landscapes. He explores and revisits the recycled materials to transcend them and create a dress or bas-reliefs. Gérald Pestmal uses items theoretically doomed to extinction to free them of their fate, give them back their longevity and elevate them to the status of a work of art. “I restore these scraps’ preciosity and their identity as transformed materials. I transform them in turn into a lasting piece conducive to contemplation by mankind.”
