Jacques CLAUZEL

Born in 1941 in Nîmes, France
Lives and works in Gallargues-le-Montueux, France

After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Tourcoing and Montpellier, and at the Atelier Chastel in Paris, Jacques Clauzel relocated to Africa. From 1965 to 1973, he was a photojournalist, worked as a set designer for television in the Ivory Coast, and then taught at the Beaux-Arts in Abidjan. In 1973, he returned to France to open an industrial photography studio, but quickly shifted to painting and illustration by means of automatic drawing. Jacques Clauzel has illustrated books for, amongst others, Editions À Travers publishing house and poets Andrée Chedid, Pierre Dhainaut, Bernard Noël and Michel Butor.
