Kath 1
Cardboard
22 x 38 x 30 cm
In 2014, a large exhibition with a focus on his work after 2008 was held in his hometown of Überlingen. It was a collection of pieces and diverse subjects that showcased the diversity of possibilities offered by undulated cardboard. Kath1 is the first object in a series of five small sacred buildings. The name is an abbreviation of the word “kathedrale” (cathedral). In this piece, the play of rich shapes with their unfading transparency dominates the scene. The diversity of shapes in both nature and architecture, much like in the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, inspired the artist to construct this sculpture. A stone inserted inside the piece alluded to the materials used to build churches.
