Arturo Carmassi’s work went through a number of phases. The informal, abstract expression of the early years of his career transformed into a more figurative style by the late 1950s. His final years marked an about-face, with the artist simplifying his artistic language and eliminating nearly all superfluous information. In doing so, he reasserted the modernity of his oeuvre.
