Nicolas Wolkenar’s artistic drivers are the construction and deconstruction of space, as well as working with matter. His paintings are made by stacking pictorial layers mixed with sundry materials, newspapers, cardboard, sawdust, metals, and so on. The added textures are scraped or scratched to reveal the subtle play of light and colour. This love for matter later led him to sculpture, a medium through which he materializes the guidelines that he breaks, shatters and liberates ad infinitum.
