Untitled
Painting on corrugated cardboard and mixed media
98,5 x 802 cm
This monumental painting was created by artists Fabian Cerredo and Denis Monfleur. The two men shared a studio in Fontenay-sous-Bois (Val de Marne) in 1997, where they created several works together. Monfleur is a sculptor, stone carver, and self-taught artist, while Cerredo is a painter who trained at the fine arts schools in Buenos Aires and Paris. In this work, their practices come together and intertwine, giving shape to this immense painting on corrugated cardboard. A scene of jubilation and celebration unfolds in the space, with a crowd of characters dancing and whirling together. Women in long dresses twirl barefoot, a couple spins, and the figures are sometimes blurred, as if in motion. In the center, floating slightly, a saxophonist accompanies this joyful celebration. This fresco, full of cheerfulness and energy, is one of the first works to enter the RAJA Collection, and is one of the few commissions placed with artists by the RAJA Group when it moved into its new Paris Nord 2 site in 1998.
