GUACOLDA
Born in 1967 in Concepción, Chile
Lives and works in Champigny-sur-Marne, France
“As a plastic artist, I assemble, mix, weave, embroider and engrave figures and mediums… The common thread through all of my drawings, engravings, paintings and embroideries is the line. It connects all of them. The linking line, the printed line, the vibrating line, the coloured line.”
“As an artist, Guacolda subverts and challenges the traditional practice of printmaking by experimenting with various artistic media—painting, photography, printmaking, drawing, embroidery, collage, and sculpture—with the photographic image serving as a recurring element in her work. Through the layering of materials, surfaces, and images, her work reveals the complexity of the present and explores the notions of materiality, the reproducible image, and painting in the digital age. The repetition of certain motifs from one work to the next is a central principle of her practice. Each reinterpretation of an image—through weaving, painting, or embroidery—offers a subtle variation, in which material, color, and scale transform its perception. Large-scale works thus engage in a dialogue with smaller pieces or ceramics, conceived as fragments or echoes, extending the motif into other media and other temporalities. This circulation of images creates an evolving body of work, in which the same subject unfolds and metamorphoses across the works. A graduate of the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Guacolda is regularly invited to artist residencies, notably in Tokyo, Lisbon, and Lebanon. Her works are part of private and institutional collections.” (artist portfolio – 2026).
