Philippe GELUCK

Born in 1954 in Brussels, Belgium
Lives and works in Paris, France

Philippe Geluck is a trained actor. He joined the Belgian National Theatre in 1975, and put on “a certain Plume” by Henri Michaux in 1982 to great success. He then tackled radio, participating in comic programmes beginning in 1978: L’Esprit de famille, L’Empire des médias, Les Imbuvables and Un peu de tout. Le Chat came to life a few years later, on 22 March 1983 to be precise, when the Belgian French-language daily newspaper Le Soir commissioned an illustration from him. The success of that comic character would continue to grow, making his creator famous. In parallel to his drawing career, which he supplemented by participating in the satirical weekly paper Siné Hebdo, Philippe Geluck continued to present both radio and television programmes. For the 30th anniversary of Le Chat in 1993, the artist decided to stop drawing the character for newspapers.
