With this stool from his Karton series, Illya Goldman Gubin plays with our perception and invites us to physically experience the object in front of us. Evoking both a makeshift seat and a child’s construction, this imperfect cardboard box seems ready to collapse under our weight. However, using fiberglass and resin, the artist transforms this symbolic object of movement and transport into a solid and durable support, thus transforming packaging from a container to a support in our environment.
