Patrice PANTIN

Empreinte de sable

2016

Drawing 400-gram paper, covered with partially torn, incised, heated, inked adhesive tape
146 x 132 cm

The work of Patrice Pantin incorporates a succession of precise gestures and actions. The paper is incised with a slow hand. The notches – their trajectory and depth – are closely controlled. Covered in incised adhesive tape, the colouring process then follows another, more rapid rhythm. Through random movements, the ink spills through the grooves. The adhesive is then torn off in fragments, revealing the design. Depending the angle the piece is viewed from, the colour can evade the glance of the observer or intensifies before his eyes.
