Home Work (brilliant yellow green)
Reinforced concrete, acrylic, varnish
190 x 113 x 40 cm
The title of the series from which this work originates, Home Work, is both an extension of an earlier project called “Hard Work”, for which the artist already used raw materials, as well as an amusing reference to the lockdown situation during which it was created. It is a question of looking at how, within the workshop space, we can rethink the materials available, in their simplicity and their capabilities, in order to re-examine the basic principles of sculpture. Concrete, a material that features heavily in Benjamin Sabatier’s artistic vocabulary, is here poured into modest cardboard moulds, based on economical shapes, where the openings are reused as bases and the material is optimised.
