SUPPORT FOR ARTISTIC PRODUCTION – A LOOK BACK TO OLIVIER GROSSETÊTE’S PARTICIPATIVE CARDBOARD CONSTRUCTIONS

2025

Between June 26 and 29, Olivier Grossetête, his teams and hundreds of volunteer “builders” assembled four monumental cardboard constructions for the Weekend Maritime of the Caen 2025 Millénaire!

The RAJA Group, via the RAJA – Contemporary Art Collection, is delighted to have contributed over 5,500 cardboard boxes and almost 2,000 rolls of adhesive tape, which were used to erect these monumental ephemeral constructions. Workshops to assemble and prepare the cardboard boxes were held prior to the Weekend Maritime.

Each construction was assembled without cranes or machines, by collective power, following the instructions of Olivier Grossetête and his teams. The port of Caen saw a lighthouse rise to a height of 24 meters, while a six-arched bridge floated over the Canal of Caen to the sea. A few kilometers further on, a fishing pavilion echoed the Château de Bénouville, and a replica of the Maison Suédoise recalled the city’s Reconstruction history.

These four cardboard works transformed the public space into a joyous, collective construction site!
